What have you learnt from the audience feedback you received?
There were two ways in which we decided to collect audience feedback. The first was through Survey Monkey and the second through written responses, by teenagers aged 11-15. We received a mix of responses both good and bad, which provided us with valuable information on our product and it's suitability as a music video.
As can be seen from the photo of a piece of audience feedback that we received, it is evident that the young demographic that responded weren't sure about the concept based idea of the masks. This could be due to them not having an understanding of the type of music video that it is, and not having the knowledge that we learnt through creating it. Due to this lack of knowledge this would therefore create a lack of understanding and maybe even appreciation for the different camera angles, shots, editing techniques etc. that were used... suggesting that audiences are only interested in a holistic view of it and not the appreciation for the creativity.
However as seen in some responses such as the one above they liked the use of the animal masks stating that they made it interesting and not boring. This demonstrates that there are individual differences between what people like in a music video, and this probably differs due to some people being more immersed into one genre of music than another.
Although they may not like the concept, they have shown an understanding for why we used the chosen idea and therefore demonstrated a distant understanding for it.
According to the responses that we received on Survey Monkey, the four shot split screen went down well with the audience, with them thinking that it was a creative, unique touch to the music video. Some of the responses that we received were as helpful as others, including answers such as "I hated it", with no explanation as to why. This makes it hard for us as a production team to understand to audiences views and how we may need to improve it for next time.
This person suggested that the music video wasn't well suited for the lyrics of the song, thus suggesting that it wasn't to their taste. This is hard to standardise as not everybody has the same views on what the meaning of the song is and therefore may take a different message from it. Thus causing the audience feedback to differ. In conclusion we have learnt from the audience feedback that it is almost impossible to please everybody who may watch your music video, especially if it would not normally be consumed by them. As well as this it has become clear that an audience is after a piece of easy watching yet staying engaged with the music video throughout. Due to their possible lack of study in this area, they are not as understanding with regards to the different aspects and conventions that go into creating it and so may show a lack of appreciation for it. Overall we had more negative comments than positive ones, but the positives we did get focused on the different shots used and the unique idea.
